Ingredients

For the Base

  • 17.6 lb watermelon (cut in half and scooped with a 1-inch melon baller) Look for heavy watermelons for better flavor.
  • 1.8 cups cantaloupe melon (cut into star and heart shapes)
  • 3 peaches (peeled and cut into cubes)
  • 1.5 cups cherries (pitted and halved)
  • 1.5 cups fresh pineapple (cut into triangles)
  • 2 cups strawberries (halved lengthwise)

For the Citrus Mix

  • 3.5 oz lemons (sliced into quarter-wedges)
  • 3.5 oz oranges (sliced into quarter-wedges)
  • 2 oranges (juiced)
  • 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 4 tbsp sugar You can use honey or agave syrup for a healthier option.

To Serve

  • 4.5 cups moscato wine For a non-alcoholic version, use sparkling grape juice.
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 0.8 cup blueberries
  • 15-20 leaves fresh mint (for additional freshness)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the top quarter off the watermelon and carefully scoop out the flesh using a 1-inch melon baller, leaving the rind intact for a serving bowl.
  • Trim a thin slice from the bottom of the watermelon so it sits flat and stable on your serving surface. Set the hollowed watermelon shell aside.
  • Cut the cantaloupe into decorative shapes, peel and cube the peaches, pit and halve the cherries, and cut the fresh pineapple into triangles. Halve the strawberries and slice lemons and oranges into wedges.

Citrus Mix

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the fresh lemon juice and orange juice with the moscato wine and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

Assembly

  • Pour the moscato liquid into the hollow watermelon shell, filling it one-third of the way. Add the watermelon balls and all prepared fruits, gently folding them together.
  • Tuck fresh mint leaves throughout the fruit to enhance the freshness and appearance.
  • Cover the watermelon bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld.

Serving

  • When ready to serve, stir gently and arrange citrus wedges around the rim for visual interest. Serve directly from the watermelon bowl.

Notes

Try serving portions in small bowls for individual servings. A sprinkle of lime zest can add a bright finish. Consider garnishing with edible flowers for a beautiful touch.
