Brownie Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard Make sure it's active and bubbly
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder Sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Mix in the sourdough discard until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

These brownies are delicious on their own or can be served with vanilla ice cream. For added sweetness, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate sauce. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days or refrigerate for up to a week.
