Shortcake Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Strawberry Topping

  • 2 cups strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • to taste Whipped cream, for topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the heavy cream until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  • Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut into rounds.
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Strawberry Preparation

  • Meanwhile, mix the sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar and let them sit for 15 minutes to release their juices.

Assembly

  • Once the shortcakes are baked, let them cool slightly, then slice them in half.
  • Layer strawberries and whipped cream between the shortcake halves and top with more whipped cream and strawberries.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

For the best taste, serve Strawberry Shortcake fresh. Store shortcakes and strawberries separately to maintain freshness.
