Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 4 pieces chicken thighs Can substitute with chicken drumsticks or wings.
  • 2 pieces green onions, chopped For garnish

For the Sauce

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Honey or maple syrup can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic Fresh is best.
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger Fresh is best.
  • 1/2 cup water To adjust sauce consistency.

To Serve

  • sesame seeds Optional for garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation of the Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Seasoning the Chicken

  • Add the chicken thighs directly into the sauce mixture. Make sure they are submerged as much as possible.
  • Let the chicken marinate in the sauce for at least 10 minutes for extra flavor.

Cooking the Chicken

  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, then cover the pan. Cook for 20 minutes, occasionally spooning the sauce over the chicken.
  • Remove the lid and let it simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce thickens.

Garnishing and Serving

  • Once the chicken is cooked through, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

You can prepare the sauce and marinate the chicken thighs a day ahead, store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently to avoid drying out.
