Ingredients
For the Base
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels You can use pre-popped popcorn for convenience.
For the Sauce
- 1/4 cup red candy melts
- 1/4 cup white candy melts
- 1/4 cup blue candy melts Try yogurt-covered popcorn or white chocolate for a less sweet option.
To Serve
- 1/4 cup M&Ms (preferably red, white, and blue) Substitute with other colorful candies or dried fruits for a different flavor.
- 1 tbsp sprinkles (stars and stripes themed if available) Optional for decoration.
Instructions
Preparation
- Start with fresh popcorn! If you have an air popper, follow the instructions for light, fluffy kernels. If not, add the kernels to a brown paper bag, fold the bag, and microwave for 2-3 minutes.
- Microwave your red, white, and blue candy melts in separate bowls. Start with 1 minute, stir, then continue in 30-second intervals until silky smooth.
- Transfer each melted color into a small piping bag or a zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
- Spread your popcorn across a parchment-lined baking sheet for easy decoration.
Decoration
- Drizzle the colorful candy melts in artistic zigzags across the popcorn.
- While the candy is still gooey, sprinkle on M&Ms and your chosen sprinkles quickly before the candy hardens.
Setting and Serving
- Let the candy harden at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. If you're in a hurry, chill the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes.
- Once set, break the popcorn into clusters and serve in a big bowl or package into individual bags for easy sharing.
Notes
For storage, keep in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Avoid reheating as it may melt the candy coating. Experiment with different drizzles and toppings to personalize your treat.
