Hot Chocolate Base

  • 480 ml milk (whole, oat, or almond)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar or honey adjust to taste
  • 0.5 tsp pure orange extract or zest of one fresh orange
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract

Toppings

  • 2 tbsp whipped cream or marshmallows for topping
  • 1 tsp grated orange zest or chocolate shavings optional garnish

Instructions

  • Infuse the milk: In a small saucepan, pour in the milk and add orange zest if using. Heat gently over medium heat for 3–4 minutes until aromatic. Do not boil.
  • Add the chocolate base: Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, and chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth and fully melted.
  • Flavor it: Add the vanilla extract and orange extract (if not using zest). Mix until well combined and heated through.
  • Serve: Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream or marshmallows, and garnish with zest or chocolate shavings. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Use dark chocolate for a richer taste or milk chocolate for extra creaminess. To make this vegan, use almond, oat, or coconut milk and dairy-free chocolate. Adjust sweetness as needed based on your chocolate choice. For festive flair, add cinnamon, nutmeg, or top with orange curls and whipped cream.
