Churro Bites
- 240 ml water
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 120 g all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Nutella
- 120 g Nutella (warmed slightly) for dipping or drizzling
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a saucepan, bring water, sugar, salt, and butter to a boil. Reduce heat and stir in flour until a ball forms. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla until smooth and sticky. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
Step 2: Shape the Bites
Pipe 1-inch bites onto a parchment-lined baking sheet or directly into hot oil if frying.
Step 3: Cook
Air Fryer: Spray with oil and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until golden.
Oven: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes.
Fried: Fry in 350°F (175°C) oil for 2–3 minutes until golden and puffed.
Step 4: Coat in Cinnamon Sugar
Immediately roll warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Step 5: Serve with Nutella
Serve warm with a bowl of melted Nutella for dipping or drizzle directly over the bites.
Let the dough cool before adding the egg to avoid scrambling. Pipe evenly sized bites for consistent cooking. Use an oven thermometer for accurate temperatures. Warm Nutella slightly for a smoother texture. Serve fresh for best flavor and texture.
Variations:
• Use chocolate spread or caramel for nut-free option.
• Fill with Nutella using a piping bag after cooking.
• Add a pinch of cayenne to cinnamon sugar for spice.
• Use plant-based butter and flax egg for vegan version.
Serving Ideas:
Pair with fruit skewers, ice cream, or serve as part of a dessert board. Top with crushed nuts or sprinkles, or dust with powdered sugar.
Storage & Reheating:
Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for 1 month. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes. Gently warm Nutella in the microwave (10–15 seconds).
