Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1 pack 12 rolls Hawaiian sweet rolls (keep rolls attached; slice horizontally)
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (or a mix)

For the Sauce

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for savory finish)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Without separating them, carefully slice the slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally to create a bottom and top layer. Place the bottom half on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese over the bottom layer of rolls. Make sure to cover all the rolls for a gooey and melted center.
  • Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese layer.
  • In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder and Parmesan if using. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the rolls.

Baking

  • Bake the assembled rolls in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese inside has melted.

Serving

  • Allow the rolls to rest for about 2 minutes before using a serrated knife to cut between the rolls. Serve warm while gooey for the best experience.

Notes

Consider topping with fresh herbs after baking for added flavor and color. Drizzle a bit of hot sauce on top for those who enjoy a spicy kick. For a gourmet touch, sprinkle flaky sea salt on the butter before baking.
