Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 4 slices slices of bread Use your preferred type of bread.
  • 4 ounces cream cheese Let it sit at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar Plus additional for dusting.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced Be generous with the strawberries.

For the coating

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying Use enough to cover the frying pan.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Spread the mixture evenly on two slices of bread and top with sliced strawberries.
  • Place the other two slices on top to create a sandwich.

Coating and Frying

  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
  • Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Fry each sandwich until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve these sandwiches warm. They are perfect on their own or can be paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, use a toaster oven or microwave briefly.
