  • 2 cans cans of yams
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use any milk type.
  • 1/2 cup butter Consider using brown butter for richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows Optional topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drain the yams and place them in a large bowl.
  • Mash the yams with brown sugar, milk, butter, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • Spread the mixture in a greased baking dish.
  • If desired, top with mini marshmallows.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until heated through and marshmallows are golden.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

Use a hand mixer for a smoother texture, and consider adding nuts for crunch. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator or freeze for 2 to 3 months.
