For the Chicken

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts Can substitute with turkey breast for a leaner option.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder Adjust to taste, can add cayenne for heat.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

For the BBQ Sauce

  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce Plus more for serving. Consider sugar-free or homemade options.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Lightly spray a baking tray with non-stick spray or line it with foil for easy cleanup.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
  • Rinse the chicken breasts and pat them dry. Rub the spice mixture evenly on both sides of each chicken breast.

Cooking

  • Place the chicken breasts on the prepared baking tray and bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven and spread BBQ sauce on each piece. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Once cooked, let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a finishing touch, sprinkle some chopped green onions on top before serving. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side for those who like it saucy. Consider garnishing with fresh herbs for enhanced flavor and presentation.
