Ingredients

For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb wild-caught shrimp, peeled and deveined If unavailable, farmed shrimp can be a suitable substitute.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest From 1 lime
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice From the same lime
  • 2 tablespoons honey Agave syrup or a sugar substitute can work well for a lower-calorie option.
  • ½ bunch cilantro, finely chopped

For the Slaw

  • 3 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • ½ bunch cilantro, finely chopped
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt Can use sour cream for a different flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice From 1 whole lime

To Serve

  • Avocado, sliced
  • 8 6-inch tortillas (corn or flour) Your preference.
  • Extra lime wedges For serving.

Instructions

Marinate the Shrimp

  • In a bowl, combine the shrimp with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, lime zest, lime juice, and honey. Toss until well-coated. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the Slaw

  • In another bowl, mix the shredded cabbage, cilantro, Greek yogurt, and lime juice. Stir until everything is well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Cook the Shrimp

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter with the olive oil. Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the marinated shrimp and sauté for 2-3 minutes until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

Warm the Tortillas

  • In a separate pan, warm the tortillas over low heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or until soft.

Assemble the Tacos

  • Layer the cooked shrimp onto each tortilla, followed by a generous spoonful of creamy slaw and a few avocado slices. Top with additional cilantro if desired.

Notes

Don’t overcook the shrimp; they cook quickly. Chill the slaw to enhance flavors. Serve the slaw on the side if tacos become soggy.
