Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef You can use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembly

  • 1 jar marinara sauce You can use any pasta sauce or homemade tomato sauce.
  • 8 pieces hoagie rolls Toast the rolls for extra crispiness if desired.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Consider adding different cheeses or toppings.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Cooking

  • Bake the meatballs on a baking sheet for 20-25 minutes, until cooked through.
  • In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat.
  • Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  • Slice the hoagie rolls and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Spoon meatballs and sauce into each roll, then top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake in the oven for 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  • Serve warm with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

If you have leftover subs, store them in the refrigerator wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container for about 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until warm. For extra flavor, consider adding Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture.
