Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1 pound ground beef Can use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For the Sauce

  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed Can substitute with black beans or pinto beans.
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes Fire-roasted diced tomatoes can add a smoky flavor.
  • 2 cups bloody mary mix A low-sodium mix can be used for a healthier version.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Can substitute with soy sauce or coconut aminos.
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To Serve

  • Optional toppings: celery sticks, pickles, or olives For added garnish and flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, draining any excess fat.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Stir in the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, bloody mary mix, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.

Cooking

  • Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once ready, serve the chili hot and allow for optional toppings.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the chili sit for a few hours or overnight before serving. If too thick, add water or broth to reach desired consistency.
