Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently. Roll out to about 1-inch thickness. Cut into biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside while preparing the gravy.

Cooking

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage until fully cooked. Use a wooden spoon to break it up as it cooks.
  • Once the sausage is browned, sprinkle with 1/4 cup of flour and stir well to combine. Gradually mix in 2 cups of milk, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.

Serving

  • Serve the sausage gravy over the warm biscuits for a comforting meal.

Notes

For thicker gravy, simmer longer until it reaches your desired consistency. Store cooked biscuits and gravy in the fridge for 2-3 days or freeze the sausage gravy for later use.
